Barcelona Cannabis Social Clubs 2026: Entry Guide

Barcelona has one of Europe's best known cannabis social club scenes, with many private associations spread across Eixample, Gràcia, El Raval and the Gothic Quarter. It is also the city where visitors most often get it wrong, because the clubs look like venues and operate as private associations.

Is it legal? What Spanish law really says

Spain has no recreational cannabis shops. It has cannabis social clubs, asociaciones cannábicas: private, non-profit associations whose registered members share cannabis cultivated collectively for their own consumption. Nothing is sold to the public and nothing may be advertised in the street.

The legal foundation is the line Spanish courts draw between private and public conduct. Private consumption and cultivation for personal use by adults are not criminal offences; consumption or possession in public is an administrative offence under Ley Orgánica 4/2015 and is routinely fined. Trafficking stays criminal. That is why clubs are private associations, why the door may be closed to non-members, and why nothing you receive inside may leave with you.

  • Private, non-profit associations with their own admission rules, never walk-in shops
  • 18+ at minimum, several venues set 21+
  • Photo ID whose name matches the visitor details accepted by the club
  • Consumption inside the premises only
  • No photos of other members, no resale, no uninvited guests

How to seek entry to a club in Barcelona, step by step

Traditionally, an association in Barcelona may require a referral from an existing member, an in-person registration appointment or other information before considering admission. Each club independently decides whether to associate with a visitor and whether to admit them under its rules and applicable law. A Zazapass Invite Pass grants you access to participating clubs without an entry fee when a club accepts it; it does not replace a referral, invitation or sponsor, and it does not guarantee admission.

  • Choose a single-club Zazapass Invite Pass for one participating venue, or the Barcelona Zazapass Invite Pass for participating partner clubs in the region
  • Enter the holder name exactly as printed on the passport or ID you will bring
  • Receive a digital Zazapass Invite Pass with a QR code by email and in your Zazapass account (Apple Wallet supported)
  • Show the QR at reception, where staff may check it along with your ID and apply the club's own admission rules
  • Bring your ID, follow the house rules, and remember that the club decides independently whether to admit you

A Zazapass Invite Pass is not a membership or a cannabis purchase: it covers the entry fee only at participating clubs. Any association relationship, admission decision and anything you receive inside are handled by the club under its own rules and applicable law.

District orientation: where the clubs actually are

Where you sleep decides how much you walk. Barcelona's associations cluster in five areas, all within reach of the metro.

  • Eixample - the highest density, walkable from Passeig de Gràcia and Sagrada Família
  • El Raval & Gothic Quarter - small, old-school associations minutes from Las Ramblas
  • Gràcia - quieter, lounge-style venues popular with long-stay members
  • Poblenou & Barceloneta - a handful of clubs near the beach and the tech district
  • Sants & Sant Antoni - local-leaning associations with little tourist traffic

Single-club Zazapass Invite Pass or the Barcelona Zazapass Invite Pass?

A single-club Zazapass Invite Pass is the simplest route if you plan to visit one participating venue for the whole trip. The Barcelona Zazapass Invite Pass makes sense when you want variety across participating partner clubs, but it does not provide automatic entry at every club, replace any invitation or referral a club may require, or remove the club's independent right to refuse a visitor.

Practically, most visitors staying three days or longer may want to visit more than one club, because associations differ enormously in atmosphere: some are living-room quiet, others have PlayStations, terraces and events.

Etiquette: what gets you turned away in Barcelona

Associations survive on discretion. Doormen in every Spanish city enforce the same short list, and breaking it can lead to refusal or removal under the club's rules.

  • Never say the club's name to strangers or post its address publicly
  • Do not consume in the street, on public transport or in hotel doorways in Barcelona
  • No filming or photographing other members or the club's service areas
  • Never take out, share or resell what you receive inside
  • Arrive calm; visibly intoxicated arrivals may be refused
  • Ask before using vaporisers, dabs or edibles, as rules differ per venue

Common mistakes visitors make

  • Turning up without meeting the club's admission requirements and expecting the door to open
  • Buying from street sellers on Las Ramblas: illegal, and an unreliable product
  • Consuming on the beach or in a park, where fines are actively issued
  • Booking a club far from your accommodation and then walking across the city at night
  • Assuming every club speaks English, as most in the centre do, while most in Sants do not

Plan the trip

Pick a participating club Zazapass Invite Pass or the Barcelona Zazapass Invite Pass on the Barcelona city page, where the live list of partner clubs, the map and the opening hours are always current. Then read the Spanish etiquette section once more before you go, and check each club's requirements: a Zazapass Invite Pass covers the entry fee only and does not make you a member or guarantee admission.

Discover cannabis social clubs in Spain and South Africa, plus cannabis-friendly lounges, events and hotels in 6+ countries. Your entry pass covers the entry fee. Each club decides membership and admission under its own rules and local law.
