A Relaxed Cannabis Weekend in Cape Town

Your Relaxed Cannabis Weekend in Cape Town
So you're thinking about a chilled cannabis weekend in Cape Town. Good choice. It's one of the best looking cities on the planet, and the vibe is just right for enjoying cannabis privately. You can really relax here, surrounded by great views and even better food.
Understanding Cannabis in South Africa
Alright, before you start packing, let's talk rules. In 2018, our top court decriminalised private use, possession, and growing for adults. Then in May 2024, the Cannabis for Private Purposes Act became official law. Bottom line, you can enjoy cannabis in private. Just remember, buying or selling it is still illegal. And definitely don't smoke in public or drive after you've partaken. The rules can shift, so it’s smart to stay aware. The cannabis clubs here are private, which is how they operate within the law.
Making the Most of Your Trip: Zazapass
If you want your weekend to be genuinely relaxed, look into getting a Zazapass. It's an entry pass that gets you into partner clubs for a whole year. The best part is you don't have to pay the club's entry fee every time you go. You also get in faster, so you spend less time in a queue and more time chilling out. After you get your pass, your Zazapass account will show you the exact address of the club. And just to be clear, this is an entry pass only. It doesn't let you buy any cannabis.
A Zazapass entry pass for any of our South African partner clubs is EUR 15 and it lasts for a full year. Just make sure you're over 21 and have your ID with you. You can see all the passes right on the Zazapass website.
Cape Town's Cannabis-Friendly Spots
Cape Town has some great Zazapass partner clubs, and each one has its own feel. You'll definitely find one that fits your weekend plans.
The Alibi Cape Town: Central and Chic
You'll find The Alibi Cape Town right in the CBD, on cool Bree Street. It's a multi-level spot with private lounges perfect for kicking back. They even have workspaces if you need to get something done. And don't worry about getting hungry. There’s a full kitchen. This place is perfect if you’re staying in the city centre and want to be in the middle of everything.
Nirvana Cafe Sea Point: Coastal Comfort
Hop in a car for a quick drive from the city centre and you'll hit Sea Point, a great part of town where you'll find Nirvana Cafe Sea Point. It’s another multi-level club built for relaxing and meeting people. You've got your private lounges and workspaces, plus meeting rooms if work follows you here. There's a library, a kitchen and cafe for when you're peckish, and pool tables. Best of all, you can hang out on the terraces, breathe in the sea air, and use the free Wi-Fi.
Nirvana Cafe Blouberg: Beachside Bliss
If you're all about the beach and that classic postcard view of Table Mountain, then you need to go to Nirvana Cafe Blouberg over in Table View. It’s the sister spot to the one in Sea Point, with all the same great stuff. Think private lounges, workspaces, and places to just hang out. You can just sit back, look out at the ocean, and take it all in. It’s a great change of pace, especially if you’ve spent the day up the West Coast.
Beyond Cape Town: Other South African Options
I know you're here for Cape Town, but if you're travelling around the country, Zazapass has you covered elsewhere too. There's Budrock Cafe in Johannesburg, for instance. A good place to know about if your trip takes you there. We don't have a partner in Pretoria just yet, but new clubs get added in different cities from time to time. Just keep an eye on the full Zazapass clubs list or check the map to see what’s new.
Planning Your Weekend
The whole point of a cannabis weekend in Cape Town is to not have a strict plan. Take it easy. Have a slow breakfast wherever you’re staying, then wander over to a Zazapass club. Spend a few hours there. Read a book, talk to some people. In the afternoon, maybe go for a walk along the Sea Point promenade or just find a spot to look at the mountain. For dinner, the city has incredible food everywhere. Or just stay put. The clubs have kitchens and cafes, so you can just settle in for the night if you feel like it.
Look, Cape Town has amazing food, tons of art, and views that will stop you in your tracks. When you mix all that with the private, comfortable vibe of the Zazapass clubs, you get a trip that’s actually relaxing.

FAQ
Is cannabis legal to buy in Cape Town?
No. Buying or selling cannabis is still illegal in South Africa. The law only allows for private use, possession, and growing by adults. Your Zazapass entry pass is just for getting into the private clubs. It has nothing to do with buying cannabis.
What is a Zazapass?
A Zazapass is a one-year entry pass for our partner clubs. It saves you from paying the club's entry fee every time you go, and it gets you inside faster. You just need to be 21 or older and have a valid ID.
Are there Zazapass clubs outside of Cape Town?
Yes. We have partner clubs in other cities, like Budrock Cafe in Johannesburg. There isn't a club in Pretoria at the moment, but we are always adding more partners. The best way to know for sure is to check the Zazapass website for the latest list of clubs and where they are.
