Cannabis Lounges in Germany: What They Are and What They Are Not

The short answer
A cannabis lounge in Germany is a venue where you can spend time and consume what you bring yourself, where the venue allows it. It is not a shop, it is not a cultivation association, and it is not a pharmacy. You cannot buy cannabis in a lounge.
What lounges are
- Private or semi-private venues with their own house rules.
- Places to meet, relax and consume what you have brought, where the venue allows it.
- Often listed with an opening time, a minimum age and rules on ID and behaviour.
What lounges are not
- Not shops. No cannabis is sold there.
- Not cultivation associations. Associations supply registered members; only people with residence in Germany can join.
- Not medical care. Medical cannabis needs a prescription and is separate from lounge visits.
- Not a legal grey zone for buying. Buying on the street remains illegal.
What the venue decides
Each venue decides under its own rules and applicable law whether and on what terms to admit a visitor, and may refuse a visitor. Depending on the venue you must be 18+ or 21+. Bring valid photo ID.

Visiting responsibly
- Do not drive after consuming. A very low THC limit applies on the road.
- Do not take cannabis across borders. Import and export are prohibited, even in small amounts.
- Respect neighbours and local rules on public consumption.
