Cannabis social clubs in Tenerife

Tenerife's associations split between the working north around Santa Cruz and La Laguna and the resort south around Costa Adeje and Playa de las Américas. The island is big enough that a membership limited to one venue can leave you an hour's drive from your own club — which is why the Tenerife Pass is written to cover both ends.

Cannabis in Tenerife: the complete guide

Cannabis laws in Spain: what a social club actually is

Spain does not have recreational cannabis shops. What it has instead are cannabis social clubs (asociaciones cannábicas): private, non-profit associations whose registered members share cannabis grown collectively for their own consumption. Nothing is sold to the public, nothing is advertised on the street, and consumption happens inside the association's private premises.

The legal basis is the distinction Spanish courts draw between private and public conduct. Private consumption and private cultivation for personal use are not criminal offences, while consumption or possession in public spaces is an administrative offence under the Ley Orgánica 4/2015 (Ley Mordaza) and can be fined. Trafficking remains a criminal matter. That is why every club is members-only, why the door is closed, and why you can never take club cannabis outside with you.

In practice this means three rules that never change, in any Spanish city: you must be a registered member before you enter, you must be 18 or older (some clubs set 21), and everything stays inside the club. Zazapass exists to handle the first step — the membership registration — before you land, instead of hunting for an invitation once you are there.

  • Members-only, non-profit associations — no public sales, no walk-in shops
  • 18+ (some clubs 21+), passport or national ID required, name must match your pass
  • Consumption inside the premises only — never carry club cannabis into public
  • No photos of other members, no resale, no bringing uninvited guests
  • Public consumption is fined administratively — keep it indoors

How to join a cannabis social club in Tenerife

Traditionally, joining a Tenerife association required a referral from an existing member plus an in-person registration appointment — which is exactly what most travellers cannot arrange from abroad. A Zazapass Tenerife Pass replaces that referral: we are the sponsoring member, so your registration is prepared before you arrive.

The flow is the same for every partner club, and takes minutes:

  • Pick your pass on Zazapass — a single club pass, or the multi pass for the whole city
  • Enter the pass holder name exactly as it appears on the passport or ID you will bring
  • Receive your digital pass with a QR code by email and in your Zazapass account (Apple Wallet supported)
  • Show the QR code at reception — staff scan it, see your name, pass type and validity, and complete the membership form
  • Bring your ID, respect the house rules, and you are a member for the full validity of the pass

North vs south: where the clubs are

The two halves of Tenerife behave like different markets, with different opening hours and different crowds.

  • Santa Cruz & La Laguna — year-round local associations in the north
  • Costa Adeje & Playa de las Américas — resort venues in the south, busiest in winter
  • Los Cristianos & Las Américas strip — closest to the southern hotels
  • Puerto de la Cruz — a small number of associations on the northern coast

Canary Islands practicalities

Tenerife's high season is the European winter, so southern associations are fullest between November and March. The TF-1 motorway and the TITSA bus network connect north and south in about an hour; a hire car makes club-hopping realistic. Long-stay and season options exist because many members here are wintering rather than on a short break.

Club etiquette and house rules in Tenerife

Associations lose their footing when members behave like tourists in a shop. Every club in the network asks for the same basic conduct, and doormen do enforce it.

  • Never mention the club by name to strangers or post its address publicly
  • No filming or photographing other members or the counter area
  • Do not consume in the street, on public transport or in hotel doorways in Tenerife
  • Do not share, resell or take out what you receive inside
  • Arrive sober-ish and calm; intoxicated arrivals are turned away
  • Tip: ask staff before using vaporisers, dabs or edibles on site — rules vary per venue

Zazapass provides entry passes to private associations and lounges. Nothing on this page is legal advice, and no cannabis is sold on this website.
